This search is being led by the CAMH Social Entrepreneurism in Mental Health working group in partnership with Ashoka Canada and MaRS Social Innovation Generation. This initiative is funded by the Population Health Improvement Research Network.

What We are Looking For

We are looking for outstanding examples of social enterprises in the Greater Toronto Area that focus on mental health equity.

The Search

Applicants will complete a brief online application. These applications will be reviewed and a shortlist of the highest quality applicants will be selected. Those shortlisted social enterprises will be contacted by a selection committee member and asked to describe their work in more detail. The selection committee member will gather this information to assist in determining the strongest candidates. This information will also help selection committee members advocate for their selections with a senior selection committee, who will make final decisions about competition winners based on those presentations.

The Awards

Of the shortlisted social enterprises, three will be selected for cash prizes of $3000 (1st), $2000 (2nd), and $1000 (3rd). All shortlisted social enterprises and the award winners will be acknowledged at an awards ceremony to which service leaders, policy makers, and the media will be invited.

The Timeline

All online applications must be received by midnight, Friday November 3rd, 2011. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted in subsequent weeks and awards decisions will be made by early December, 2011. Only social enterprises that have been shortlisted will be contacted by the selection committee.

For examples of social enterprises in mental health equity go to the Social Enterprise Council of Canada website and search for social enterprises with the search term "mental illness".
