Figures 2a-b. Academic/Grey Literature Publication Year Distribution

We begin first with a description of the annual distribution of the two sources of literature. Figure 2a demonstrates a steady growth in the publication of peer reviewed academic articles on health equity issues in Ontario for the period of 2005 to 2009, with two sharp peaks in the years 2007 (23.1%) and 2009 (27.2%). The publication of grey literature during the study period had a considerable growth for the years of 2006 to 2008 (Figure 2b). This could be seen as matching the academic literature spikes in 2007 and 2009 as some authors publish reports first as grey literature and then in academic sources. The decline in the year 2009 for grey literature publication on health equity issues is potentially of concern.
