The Population Health Improvement Research Network is pleases to announce its new competition to support emerging researcher in population health in Ontario. A minimum of three fellowships will be awarded, each for an amount of $55,000 ($50,000 research stipend and $5,000 research funds). It is PHIRN's hope and intention that these funds help emerging researchers obtain the status required to apply independently for new grants,

Current Research Areas of Interest

Research proposed for this award must be in line with one of PHIRN's two main programs (Patterns & Pathways of Health Inequities or Population Health Interventions). Information on these can be found on PHIRN's website at At least one award will be earmarked to activities involving the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Health Equity Impact Assessment (HEIA) tool and initiative.


The duration of the award is 12 months from the date of granting. The award will be held at the university in the name of the mentor. The university at which the selected candidate is situated will determine the title of position granted.


The deadline for submission of applications is Thursday, September 1st, 2011.
